At Oleander Acres, we raise our horses to be horses. Although our barns are full of roomy stalls, our horses see little of the inside. They tend to live out at pasture 24/7, the mares and geldings together in an exceedingly large pastures, while each stallion has his own roomy paddock. Our horses are never made to do anything that they do not want to do; our cues are subtle and gentle, asking rather than telling. We train a horse to yield from pressure, making them sensitive to even the slightest touch.

Our schedules can be pretty exciting. Someone's hopefully up by 7:30 and feeding while they're still in their pastures, and then we all flock out to start grooming together — still at pasture. We have our first two rotations back-to-back, then lunch around 12:30 after putting the horses out with hay. We come back to do chores, letting the horses wind down before our last rotation. Bedtime hay, feeding, and grooming follows before we feed ourselves, a pair heading out every other hour after that to check the herd.

LEC Call Me Casanova
03/11 Elite Hanoverian Stallion, 16.3 hands
Retired Hunter Jumper
Foundation Sire x Foundation Dam
Biography
Casanova was imported directly from England in 2011, when Christina finally decided to put her days of showing on the back-burner and focus on putting together a new line of Hanoverians in Appaloosa Plains. Casanova's previous owner was from the UK, and only kept him for a short period of time after discovering a medical condition which would require her to retire from her equestrian career. However, during the time she owned him, she had been working with Christina as a customer for many years, arranging breedings across the sea with some of Christina's mares. They had developed a friendship and she knew Christina would be a great owner for Casanova. Prior to the training from his previous owner, Casanova was raised and endured majority of his training in Germany (by an English trainer as well). The Hanoverian breed was a rarity in Appaloosa Plains, and having spent years indulged in the many facets of the equine world, Christina felt she could master the challenge of introducing Hanoverians. Christina spent majority of the year getting to know her foundation sire, and many painstaking hours of training and showing to build up his reputation. It was a relatively easy task though, as Casanova is a very kind and obedient stallion. He's well known throughout Appaloosa Plains and neighboring hoods for his welcoming and friendly temperament. Only one foal crop has been released so far and the LEC's reputation is still growing. But from our experience with Casanova, his temperament and ideal confirmation, as well as his personality traits seems to carry over quite prominently in his offspring. We do expect that with these characteristics, each individual foal should excel in all English disciplines. Foals have been highly trainable and attractive thus far.
